Poipu Bay Golf Course

Double Lines

The Poipu Bay Golf Course, famous for hosting the PGA of America's Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 to 2006, is spread out over 84 hectares of gently rolling land perched on Kauai's south coast. This beautiful Kauai golf course sits between rolling ocean surf and stunning mountain vistas. Particularly striking is the distant rock formation known as Mahualepu, which appears to be a relaxing giant Hawaiian god, totally submerged except for his pointy nose.

Two holes at Poipu Bay, the 15th and 16th, present commanding views of the Pacific Ocean from a spectacular line of cliffs. A key indicator of the prevailing wind condition is the yardage at the 16th hole, a par-4 which measures a whopping 501 yards from the rear tee box.

Poipu Bay's main characteristics are trade winds, firm fairways, and open fronts that allow the ball to roll onto the putting surface. Additionally, there are 80-plus bunkers and five water hazards. The closing holes at 17 and 18, a downhill par-3 with ocean left followed by a sharp dogleg right 5-par, have provided many memorable moments during the Grand Slam competition.
