Hilo Municipal Golf Course
Hawaii's Big Island
Description
Hilo Municipal Golf Course is the only municipal layout on the Big Island. Located in Hilo, the state's second-largest city (which seems more like a big, small town), this course is very popular amongst locals.
Hilo Municipal opened in 1951 and was built on 146 acres of former sugarcane plantation fields. Given the frequent rains common in the Hilo area, this Big Island golf course abounds with a variety of beautiful trees including banyan, monkey pod, eucalyptus, coconut palms, hibiscus, and shower trees.
You'll notice you won't find a single sand bunker anywhere on this course because of Hilo's consistent wet weather. Surprisingly, Hilo Municipal has been the home to many of Hawaii's state champions, with more likely to come.
