PALACE THEATER
HILO, HAWAII'S BIG ISLAND
Clap your hands for those who saved The Palace. Built in 1925, the heyday of American movie palaces, this is a neo-classical jewel, almost out of place in quaint Hilo. Notice that the theater is completely made of redwood, including the columns. The theater's mighty old pipe organ is a treasure.
Settle into the stadium seats (innovative when introduced) for an evening of drama or Hawaiian music. Maybe an art film will be showing or a provocative foreign film from the Hawaii International Film Festival. It’s a relaxing way to spend the night after a busy day in Hilo.
