PLANTATION AND GARDENS
The lush Hilo side of Hawaii's Big Island blooms with unique gardens. Liliuokalani Gardens, named after Hawaii's last monarch, is a beautiful Japanese Garden complete with bonsai trees, rock gardens, and canal bridges. Nani Mau Gardens showcases 53 acres of tropical plants.
Also known as the "Orchid Isle," Hawaii's Big Island is one of the biggest producers of cut orchids in the country. With over 1000 blooming orchids, Akatsuka Orchid Gardens has the largest orchid collection in Hawaii.
On the Kona side, no trip to Hawaii's Big Island is complete without a cup of rich Kona coffee. There are over 100 coffee farms in Kona's upland slopes and many offer tours as well as free samples of fresh coffee.
