Description

Kauai Historical Society steps back to the days when women wore holoku, a long dress in fine fabrics with a trailing hem in back. Adapted from missionary wear, the holoku evolved into many styles and modern fabrics. They were worn at weddings, beauty pageants, festivals, hula shows, and May Day programs. We encourage attendees to wear a vintage holoku and to share its heritage during the procession of holoku. Or wear one that was just created. Men are encouraged to wear an aloha shirt from their collection. Fundraiser for the Historical Society will be on Saturday, October 15, Smith's Tropical Paradise, 5:30 pm. Kauai musicians include Polei Palmeira, Kirby Keogh, Edward Punua, Mark Rossi, Michael Keale. Heavy pupus, no-host bar. KHS members $55 each; non-members $65; students $35. Reserve online at www.kauaihistoricalsociety.org/events.
