Description:	What started in 1982 as a tribute to the late, famed Gabby ‘Pops’ Pahinui has grown into a statewide festival that celebrates the music for which Pahinui was perhaps best known, ki-hoalu, or slack key guitar, the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival. This year, the festival celebrates its 14th year on Hawaii’s Big Island with a free concert on Sunday, September 2 from 2pm until 7pm at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. According to festival founder and promoter Milton Lau, "The sole purpose of the festival is to preserve and perpetuate an indigenous art form that was born on the Big Island in 1830 by Hawaiian paniolo. The concert also provides the public a genuine first class cultural experience and an unparalleled list of performers on stage in a single afternoon." The ki-hoalu style of playing the guitar requires the artist to "slacken" the individual guitar strings to the artist’s liking and play in an "open tuning" method. Ki-hoalu has gained worldwide acceptance as evidenced by its introduction into the Grammy Awards Hawaiian Music Category. "Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa is delighted to welcome back the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival – Kona Style," said resort general manager Scott Brooks. "The addition of a craft fair this year will add to overall guest experience." Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival - Kona Style will be outdoors on the lawn September 2, 2007 at Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. The concert lineup is being finalized but may include notable artists Ledward Ka’apana, Michael Kaawa,David Kahiapo, Walter Keale, Paul Togioka, Pali, Donald Kaulia, Kohala, Brittni Paiva, Sonny Lim, Dennis and David Kamakahi, Dwight Kanae, Al Ka’ai and Keoki Kahumoku.
