LIMAHULI GARDENS
HANALEI, KAUAI
Beyond the last of the old wooden Hanalei bridges at Haena is Limahuli Gardens. Walk in the footsteps of ancient Hawaiians who lived in this paradise. The 17-acre garden is the heart of a thousand-acre preserve designated a National Tropical Botanical Garden.
See endangered native plants, all neatly labeled. Wander beside ancient agricultural terraces, still gleaming with taro. Learn about Hawaiian culture by reading the signs and making your own observations. To top it all off, take the trail up the hill for a grand panorama of the gardens, the peaks of the Napali Coast, and the Pacific Ocean.
