THE ANCIENT BEAUTY OF KAUAI

Kauai is the oldest island in Hawaii and its ancient beauty and spirit manifests itself through lush mountains, fertile gardens, and idyllic beaches.

National Tropical Botanical Garden

Visit the National Tropical Botanical Gardens and you’ll understand why they call Kauai the “Garden Island.” There are three expansive and pristine gardens to explore on Kauai:

McBryde Garden

Located on the Kauai’s south shore, this is the headquarters of the National Tropical Botanical Garden featuring 259-acres of gardens and the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian plants.

Allerton Garden

Also in southern Kauai, this 80-acre gem is the public entrance to the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. It features incredible garden design and is home to the towering Moreton Bay Fig trees from “Jurassic Park.”

Limahuli Garden and Preserve

Located in lush northern Kauai, Limahuli Gardens covers 1000-acres, three distinct ecological zones, and is home to early traces of ancient Hawaiian culture.

Travel further north along the winding road past the canyon and explore beautiful Kokee State Park. At the Kokee Natural History Museum you’ll find hiking maps and exhibits. Historic Towns

Explore the spirit of Kauai’s people by visiting its charming small towns. Stroll through Koloa town, the home of Hawaii’s first commercial sugar mill. Not only is Koloa a great place to shop and eat, it’s also a great place to learn about Kauai’s multicultural, plantation past.

Hanapepe, “Kauai’s Biggest Little Town,” is a sleepy town that is the art capital of Kauai. Located west of Koloa, Hanapepe celebrates its artists every Friday, from 6-9pm, with gallery open houses and live music. The setting for the film “Lilo and Stitch,” Hanapepe is also home to great food, shopping, and the “Hanapepe Swinging Bridge,” which is always an adventure to cross.
