Lānaʻi Gardens, Plantations & Parks

With tall, stately Cook pine trees and cooler weather due to elevation, Lānaʻi is unlike any other island in Hawaiʻi. Sitting just to the west of Maui, which gets most of the rain, the island is drier than other islands giving Central Lānaʻi a more rustic feel.

Pālāwai Basin, once home to the world’s largest pineapple plantations, is now a scenic, open plain. At the 590-acre Kānepuʻu Preserve on the north side of Lānaʻi, visitors can learn about 48 species of endemic plants. Just north, experience a red rock garden at Keahiakawelo. Stay out of restricted areas, as hunting is common on Lānaʻi.
