PLANTATION AND GARDENS

Unlike the other tropical islands of Hawaii, Lanai more closely resembles the Wild West with tall, stately pine trees. It’s cooler in Lanai due to its elevation and drier since it sits to the west of Maui, which gets most of the rain.

Palawai Basin, once home to the world’s largest pineapple plantations is now an open plain.  The 590 acre Kanepuu Preserve on the west side of Lanai is home to 48 species of native plants. Just north, experience a Mars-like rock garden at Keahikawelo, the Garden of the Gods.
