Description
The Lodge serves as an excellent base for exploring the southern portion of the Big Island. From Punalu'u, home to honu'ea (giant sea turtles) to Puna with its thermal ponds and wild jungles, to Hilo's historic plantation character...all are easy day trips from the Lodge.Volcano's rainforest is home to the i'iwi and apapane birds, endemic to Hawai'i. They can often be viewed from the lanai of our Common Room.Albert Jeyte and his Hawai'i-born wife, Lorna, refurbished the former YMCA camp in 1987. Fifty years earlier it served as an outdoor retreat for hundreds of Hawai'i's youngsters. Today, Hawaiian hospitality reigns as dedicated staff care for guests with kama'aina graciousness.
