Description
McBryde Garden is a veritable Noah's ark for threatened and endangered plants of the tropics. Located in the verdant Lawa`i Valley, this garden is home to the world’s largest collection of native Hawaiian flora outside the wild, as well as extensive plantings of palms, flowering trees, heliconias, orchids, and other plants collected from tropical regions. The landscape is a combination of sprawling expanses and niches of plantings, transected by the meandering Lawa`i Stream. A major Conservation and Horticulture Center, with nursery and micropropagation laboratory, is located here. McBryde is adjacent to Allerton Garden. Both are part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.
Self-guided tours available daily. Tram departs to garden every hour on the 1/2-hour 9:30-2:30 pm. No reservations needed. Other areas of the McBryde Garden are offered as part of the guided Ho`ike Tour, which also includes parts of the Allerton Garden. Reservations can be made online at mcbryde.ntbg.org
