Description

Located in the heart of Hilo, this classic, restored plantation home built in 1914, is centrally located close to all the wonderful places to see and experience in Hawai'i's second largest city! Enjoy Hilo's famous Farmer's Market, great places to eat and shop, museums and galleries. Since 2009 we have been hosting travelers from around the globe and we offer guests a true and unique Hawaiian experience with aloha. Surrounded by lush gardens and towering bamboo, the hale (house) is an enchanting oasis with outdoor lanai (porches) for dining and relaxing. Enjoy views of Hilo bay and Hilo town from the wrap around front porch! The great location makes the hale an ideal "base camp" for your Big Island adventures, that include Akaka Falls, Volcanoes National Park, Mauna Kea Summit and Visitor's Center and the Puna coast with black sand beaches. We have over 130 Excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and we are also recommended by the Lonely Planet guides. Each of the 3 Guest Rooms feature a unique theme, private baths, wireless high-speed internet, fine linens, soaps and towels, closets, Cable TVs, alarm clocks, ceiling and/or room fans. We also provide hair dryers, irons, beach towels and Futon Beds for extra guests. While you are staying with us, we can point you to our favorite places for the best sushi, cocktails, wine tasting, local fare and events happening during your stay. We have a great local Menu collection in the Kitchen too! Your Hosts and Managers of the Hilo Bay Hale Bed and Breakfast are Danny Miller, Matthew Potts and Carolina Ramirez Danny, Matthew, and Carolina have lived on the island for over a decade and all three are available to help make your stay at the Hale a great one. Danny purchased the Hale in 2008 with artist Dawn Roberts (based on Maui) and spent one year restoring it. And in 2009, Danny and Matthew opened the Bed and Breakfast. Danny, originally from Florida, moved to the Big Island in 2004 from Ojai, CA and is a documentary filmmaker He has made several award winning films, including several about the culture and fragile natural worlds of the Hawai'i. His most recent film, SEEDS OF HOPE was shown at the Smithsonian Institute and on PBS Hawaii and focuses on the importance of growing more local food on the islands. Matthew, originally from Kansas, has been living in Hawai'i since 1996 and before returning in 2009, he managed and opened Borders Bookstores across the globe, including opening and managing the Borders in Hilo. He has also traveled around the world, teaching English in Africa and Korea and is fluent in French. His most recent travels have taken him to Cambodia and Vietnam in 2015. Carolina, originally from Los Angeles, CA. came to Hawai'i on a whim and fell in love with the island. Embracing the aloha experience from learning the graceful movements of the hula from her kumu Leilehua Yuen, to the beautiful strength of paddling with canoe clubs, to selling her salsa at the local farmers market.
