The East Maui Taro Festival was founded in 1992 with the 1st Annual East Maui Taro Festival taking place in Hana, Maui on March 26, 1993. " Tarofest " has grown from a loosely organized group to a well-organized non-profit organization. The event strives to educate about the importance of Taro/Kalo in a family-friendly venue. Hawaiian cultural demo's provide hands-on activities, the 20 Food Booths feature a taro dish, the Farmers Market offers diverse taro products, the Arts & Craft vendors sell items with a Hawaiian theme, the Info Tent provides space for Maui non-profits, local Music and Hula. throughout the day.
MISSION STATEMENT: To promote and perpetuate the traditional Hawaiian culture and practices with a focus on taro as it is the symbol and staple of the Hawaiian (kanaka maoli) people.
