Description

Makena Golf Course has been luring local golfers and visitors for the past thirty years with its natural gullies, lava flows, and stream beds, magnificent views of Haleakala Crater, and sweeping views of the sea.

The long, par five second hole is an early wake-up call, a challenge from tee to severely sloping green. The sixth provides golfers a choice of two fairways divided by a deep ravine (if you’re inclined to play it safe, stay right and navigate the ravine on your second shot. On the back nine, the signature fourteenth is the second longest hole in Hawaii (620 yards from the back tees) but it’s downhill all the way and, on a good day, a strong hitter can reach it in two.

Renovated in the early 90’s, Makena is one of Hawaii’s most memorable layouts – as much a nature walk as it is a golf course – winding up, over, and around a dormant volcano and completely deserving of its Conde Nast Travelers awards for Best Course Design. It has also been named to Golf Digest’s 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America.
