Wailea Resort Emerald Course
Maui
Description
Wide landing areas and receptive greens make the Emerald Course a joy to play. This underscores its reputation as the most playable of Wailea's three fine courses.
Robert Trent Jones II delivers his signature shared green as part of the picturesque 10th and 17th holes, where the huge water feature adjacent to the green creates some visual flare. The Emerald retains seven holes from the original 1978 Wailea Orange Course designed by Arthur Jack Snyder. An oddity of the old Orange layout was an ancient Hawaiian imu, or cooking pit, that sat in the center of the putting surface on the final hole. Today, as part of Emerald's par-4 No. 14, the imu sits well away from the hole as a symbol of respect for Hawaii's native culture.
This 1994 layout presents sweeping views within a palette of natural surroundings, bursting with exotic blossoms and lush landscaping. Among the exotic flora are allamanda, bird of paradise, wiliwili, plumeria, and morning glory. This Maui golf course has also been recognized as one of the most female-friendly courses in the world.
