WHALE WATCHING

Maui's waters are famous for its friendly yearly visitors the kohola, or humpback whales. Native Hawaiians believe these gentle giants are aumakua, or family guardians, and should be treated with great respect.

Whale watching happens when the humpbacks migrate to Maui's warm waters from December to May. To learn more about the whales, visit Lahaina, a historic whaling town. The Whalers Village Museum in the Whalers Village shopping center brings this era to life.
