Like each of Molokai’s 7,000 unique residents, every dance tells a unique story. Of love. Of the gods. Of a history never to be forgotten.
Everything here is cherished and preserved. From centuries-old fishponds and heiau (religious temples) to rows of missionary-built churches, the past reaches out to touch each person who visits, like the graceful fingers of a hula dancer.
History’s roots run deep on Molokai, nowhere more apparent than at Kalaupapa, where Father Damien gave his life in service of the island’s colony for Hansen’s disease. Take a guided tour on a mule-ride down to the settlement, getting a sense of his generosity for the people here. His spirit lives on in the Aloha spirit you’ll feel from the people of the “Friendly Isle.”
