What is the time difference from the mainland?

Hawaii follows Hawaii Standard Time (GMT-10 hours), which is 5 hours behind Eastern Standard Time and 2 hours behind Pacific Standard Time. Hawaii does not observe Daylight Savings Time so add one extra hour to the time difference during this period (March through November).

Do I need a car to get around in Molokai?

Unless you’re up to a 30-plus-mile bike ride every day – and some are – it’s probably best to rent a car.  As quantities are limited, it’s best to book in advance.  If you’re planning on heading up to the Kamakou Preserve or anywhere else in the Molokai Highlands, a four-wheel drive vehicle is advised.

Do I need any official papers to get to Molokai?

Since Hawaii is the 50th state, you won’t need to bring your passport unless you’re visiting from outside the United States or traveling to another country after Hawaii.

What should I pack on my trip to Molokai?

It’s warm and sunny on Molokai, and extremely relaxed.  As locals say, it’s not a fashion show here.  So throw your casual clothes in your suitcase along with your sunscreen. Also, if you’re staying in the mountains, you may want to pack a light jacket or sweater for the evenings.  If you’re checking into one of the island’s many ranches you may want to think about buying a cowboy hat and a weatherproof poncho too.

While traveler’s checks aren’t necessary, more than any other island it's recommended that you bring some cash while visiting Molokai as not every storefront takes credit and/or debit cards.

When is a good time to visit Molokai?

The weather here is phenomenal all year round.  Looking for a festival to accompany your stay?  There are the ancient Hawaiian games of the Ka Molokai Makahiki Festival (January) and the Ka Hula Piko (May), a daylong event with some of the best hula troupes in the state.
