Description
Mele Mei 2013 represents anchor Hawaiian music and hula events throughout the entire month of May. Events in Mele Mei are held throughout Waikiki and will take place at various hotels, venues and the beach.
Hawaiian language, music and dance are foundations of the Hawaiian culture. Today, Hawaiian music and the music of Hawaii continues to be an evolutionary art form, a blend of old and new that is beloved throughout the world.
Mele Mei is a month-long celebration of Hawaiian music (and Hawaii’s music). The events capitalize on Hawaiian music’s global appeal to make the state of Hawaii the destination for national and international participants and visitors. A few of the many events include the Lifetime Achievement Awards Luncheon, Lei of Stars Concert, International Hula Conference, O Ka Hula Ke Ola-hula completion, Ukulele Slack & Steel Jam, Na Hoku Hanohano Festival Workshops and ending the month long celebration with the 36th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano awards on May 25.
