ALII SUNDAY - KAMEHAMEHA V
957 Punchbowl St
Honolulu, Hawaii 96813
December 07, 2014 9:00am - 10:00am
Kawaiahao Church celebrates selected Hawaiian Royalty (Alii) who are of particular importance for the Church by holding special Sunday services in their honor. These Sundays are set aside as Alii Sunday – a celebration that was started in 1961 by the late Reverend Abraham Akaka.
Alii Sunday is usually held closest to the birth date of the Alii being honored.
On these Sundays, the Societies and Hawaiian Civic Clubs proceed into the main sanctuary at 9:00 a.m. Representatives of selective groups pay tribute to the Alii being honored. There is a Recession by these groups after the service.
Four benevolent Societies attend consistently in full regalia:
The Royal Order of Kamehameha I
Ahahui O Kaahumanu
Hale O Na Alii O Hawaii
Daughters and Sons of Hawaiian Warriors-Mamakakaua
Aside from the four Societies, members of Hawaiian Civic Clubs named for or connected to the Christian Alii also attend.
