Mililani Golf Course
Oahu
Description
Located on Oahu's central plateau between the Koolau range to the east and the Waianae range to the west, the Mililani Golf Club is a delightful parkland layout carved out of stands of Norfolk pine, eucalyptus, and the course's trademark red African tulip.
The three finishing holes on the front side set the tone for the course. At the par-5 No. 7, the locally famous Waiahole Ditch cuts across the landing area off the tee, asking golfers to hit past this canal for a go at eagle. The par-4 No. 8 moves left ever so slightly, bringing into play the prevailing trade winds on the approach. The beefy 5-par ninth doglegs right and presents a small, narrow green heavily guarded by bunkers.
The back nine bares its teeth at the 12th hole, a short and stunning par-3, which plays over a jungle gulch that wraps around the deep green to the left and all the way to its back. The right-to-left crosswind makes the huge right/front bunker seem like a good target for most. A solid run of holes from there on in makes Mililani a nice opener for an Oahu golf tour.
