Moanalua Golf Club
Oahu
Description
Built in 1898, the nine-hole Moanalua Golf Club was the first golf course built in the Hawaii. Located near the Honolulu International Airport and downtown Honolulu, legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhardt actually once landed her plane on this course.
Golfers can get in 18 holes on this layout by playing from two different sets of tees. The huge fairway on the par-4 third hole looks big enough to host a polo match which is exactly what it once did in the days of horse-drawn carriages.
The two closing holes, the par-3 No. 8 and the par-4 No. 9, offer an outstanding end to a round. Hitting from an elevated tee, the eighth hole requires pinpoint accuracy. The ninth requires accuracy more than length. A deep streambed runs across the landing area well short of the green. For those who relish Hawaii golf's history, the friendly Moanalua Golf Club provides a glimpse into Oahu's rich past.
