LEONARD'S BAKERY

KAPAHULU, OAHU

Bite into a fresh malasada and you’ll understand why this simple little bakery is so popular. The malasada is a Portuguese donut that is golden brown and crunchy on the outside, with soft, fluffy dough on the inside. This hole-less donut is then rolled in sugar for a delicious finish. Spot the little bakery on Kapahulu Avenue under the “Leonard’s” neon sign, and you’ve discovered the home of one of Oahu’s most popular malasadas.

Leonard’s original malasada is a crowd-pleaser, but you can also get them rolled in cinnamon or filled with custard, coconut cream, chocolate, or guava. Get a taste of each to see which one you like best. You’ll likely find yourself back in line with the other locals, ordering another half-dozen malasadas to go.
