KAPAHULU RESTAURANTS
KAPAHULU, OAHU
Just minutes from Waikiki, take a drive to Kapahulu and eat where the locals eat. From a heaping plate lunch at the Rainbow drive to an all-you-can-eat Egyptian lunch buffet at Pyramids, Kapahulu has something for everybody.
What trip to Hawaii is complete without sampling some authentic Hawaiian food? A sure bet is at Ono’s Restaurant right on Kapahulu Ave. Sample mouth-watering Hawaiian dishes like lau lau, poi, and lomi lomi salmon. But get ready for a wait – this place is popular with the locals.
For fine dining, visit Sam Choy’s Restaurant. Sam was one of the twelve original founders of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement, which uses the freshest ingredients and blends the exotic flavors of Hawaii’s diverse cultures. Arrive with an appetite because Sam is known for his generous portions.
Other popular places include Irifune, a quaint Japanese restaurant that serves a popular garlic ahi dish. Stop next door for a night cap at Uncle Bo’s, which has a stylish bar that brings some modern style to this casual neighborhood. For Chinese food, the locals flock to the inexpensive New Kapahulu Chop Suey or Hee Hing Restaurant, which is located right below Sam Choy’s. Sure Waikiki has plenty of wonderful places to eat, but to really get a taste of Oahu and its people, make the trip to Kapahulu.
