In celebration of Wailoa Center's 50th Anniversary, the Big Island Woodturners Club will feature entries from woodworkers across the state at its 19th annual invitational exhibit from March 3-30 at Wailoa. Participants will range from dedicated hobbyists to master artisans. The exhibit itself will be open March 4-30, Mondays through Saturdays. Admission is free. On Saturdays, March 11, 18 and 25, stop by for wood turning demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Here is the schedule for the next Saturday demonstrations: March 11, Mark Stebbins, “Bowl Turning 101,” morning, and Parker Nicholson, “Decorating using a router,” afternoon; March 18, Roie Beard, “Deep hollowing using a camera,” morning, and Rick Frazier, “Turning Pens,” afternoon; March 25, Gene Short, “Turning Christmas Ornaments,” morning, and Russell Kohashi, “Hollow forms,” in the afternoon. More than 130 pieces will be featured in the show. Most of the turnings are being created especially for the March exhibit. For more, visit www.bigislandwoodturners.org.
