Description

Every year this event honors notable Hawaii men & women who have contributed to the Hawaiian water culture. Enjoy a fun-filled day of competitive outrigger canoe, stand up paddle and kayak races, free island entertainment and a craft marketplace. 9am to 2pm at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Duke Kahanamoku Beach & Lagoon. The event honors its namesake Duke Kahanamoku, the famed Hawaii Olympic gold medal swimmer and surfer credited with polarizing the sport around the world. This free and open to the public community event kicks off with a traditional double-hulled canoe procession, oli (chant) and hula kahiko (ancient hula) performances. Festivities will include hula and Tahitian dance groups, as well as musical performances. This event is a benefit for the Waikiki Community Center, in its 39th year of vital service to the community.
