This workshop will teach participants how to start and finish a basket with a cover in the tradition of Hawaiian Basketry. Participants will learn how baskets were traditionally made with 'ieie (Freycinetia arborea) and will explore the process from start to finish, including gathering of 'ieie, preparation and cleaning of the rootlets, and the final weaving into beautiful various pieces such as hinai (baskets), hinai ia (fish traps), mahiole (helmet) and kii akua (god war images). PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Please visit www.huinoeau.com for more information and to pre-register today! Hui Noeau's Art with Aloha Program is made possible with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
