Obon Dance & Festival - Moiliili Hongwanji Mission
The Obon tradition was brought to Hawaii by Japanese immigrants and evolved into a social and cultural event, as well as a religious custom designed to honor ancestors through an evening of dance, music and merry-making.Â
Moiliili Hongwanji Mission:
6:30 to 10 p.m. July 1 & 2 1100 University Ave (old Varstiy Theatre parking lot) food booths open 5 p.m., services at 6 p.m. Moiliili Summer Fest on July 2nd, 5:30 to 10 p.m. with keiki activities and retail, food booths to be held in conjunction with the second night of the mission bon dance ( 6:30 to 10:30 p.m., with a service at 6:15 p.m.). Parking available at the University of Hawaii parking structure with free shuttle service.
