Aha Makahiki 2019
Celebrate the opening of the Makahiki season with Aha Makahiki on Saturday, November 16 at the Bishop Museum, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Hosted by Manu Boyd, this event will feature musical guests Keauhou, Darren Benitez, Kulaiwi, and Kaumakaiwa Kanakaole as well as hula performances from Miss Aloha Hula 2019, Miss Keiki Hula 2019, Master Keiki Hula 2019, and Halau Hiiakainamakalehua. Enjoy locally-inspired cocktails, beer and wine. Aha Makahiki will be a spectacular evening of Hawaiian formal wear and we encourage attendees to wear a lei or papale. "The people of Hawaiʻi celebrate Chinese New year, Cinco de Mayo, and St. Patrickʻs Day, but how many of us celebrate the Makahiki? The Makahiki is important today because it reminds us our connection to the land and how it's important that we are dedicated to the renewal of our resources. It signifies the season of rest for both the land and the people," says co-founder Kapu Gaison. "For the past few years, we've been curating an event that we could share Makahiki and would represent the best of Hawaii and we're now able to do that with ʻAha Makahiki. We felt the calling, so here we are to SHARE MAKAHIKI WITH THE WORLD."
