Moʻolelo Matters Speaker Series
The Moʻolelo Matters Speaker Series 2024 explores the concept of ʻai - the Hawaiian word for both food and the act of eating or feeding. In this series of public cultural education videos, AKA Executive Director Dr. Kamana Beamer sits down with six Native Hawaiian educators, cultural practitioners, artists, and community leaders to discuss our relationships to ʻai. This series will explore the many functions of ʻai as physical nourishment, as the unique traditions passed through families, as sacred representations of our gods, and how this conceptualization of ʻai informs our speakers’ work to revitalize their own ʻāina across Hawaiʻi. Through public screenings of the Mo’olelo Matters Speaker Series in fall 2024, Aloha Kuamoʻo ʻĀina offers locals and visitors alike the opportunity to learn more about our culture and history, grow their sense of connection to place, and develop a sense of kuleana (responsibility) to Hawaiʻi and all Earth’s lands and waters.
