Nani Na Pua - Opera On The Early Life Of Queen Liliuokalani - Two Shows

Opera about Hawaii's last Queen, Liliuokalani, from birth until she becomes queen. Focusing on her life as a youth and as heir apparent. New commission debut performance. Youth Opera. Presented by the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus. Libretto and Music Composed by native Hawaiian composer Herb Mahelona.

Featuring historical inforamation about her birth and family including her famous musical siblings, her education at the Chief's Children's School, her travels throughout the Hawaiian islands and her trip to Queen Victoria's of England Jubilee.

Performers are youth, grades 4-12 primarily, with pre performances by students grades K-4. Opera will be 2 acts and approximately 1 and a half hours in length. Many melodies incorporated into the opera will be adapted from the compositions of Liliuokalani.

November 11, 2017 marks the 100 anniversary of the passing of Queen Liliuokalani. This opera is dedicated to the Queen and the marking of this noteable point in history.
