Soto Zen Bon Festival
The major elements of the Soto Zen Bon Festival are: (a) traditional Japanese folk dancing, singing, and drumming, (b) food booths, (c) games booths, (d) cultural exhibits, (e) opening and intermission performances, (f) country store/bazaar, and (g) religious memorial services. The festival has a lively look and feel for an ancient tradition, with a festival logo and theme, "Let's Bon Dance!" It brings out the best in the Bon tradition, celebrating the diverse cultural, religious, and folk traditions that have evolved in the Japanese-American community for over five generations on Kauai. The festival's flavor blends local customs, traditions, and food that are a unique mix of Japanese, Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Puerto Rican, and Filipino cultures.
