Waimānalo Kanikapila | Go Hawaii

Waimānalo Kanikapila

This FREE annual gathering of Hawai‘i’s best musicians, dancers and entertainers is held in memory of Cyril Lani Pahinui and his renowned father, Gabby Pahinui. The event acknowledges their contributions to Hawaiian music and recognizes the musical heritage of the Waimānalo community. In 2007, Cyril Pahinui initiated the Waimānalo Kanikapila to pay homage to his late father, Gabby Pahinui. The festival is designed after gatherings remembered from Cyril’s childhood days, when weekends at the family’s home on Bell Street in Waimānalo were a continuous kanikapila. As in those days, the event attracts more than 100 musicians and gives thousands of fans an opportunity to witness some truly unforgettable moments, amazing performances, and one of a kind all-star jams by some of Hawai‘i’s greatest musicians who get together to just play music in the park. The event is supported by sales of t-shirts, which can be purchased at the event or online.
