Farmers Markets of Maui
“Farm fresh.” Just the phrase conjures up images of deep-green leafy vegetables and luscious fruits bursting with flavor. If the thought of all that natural goodness is making you hungry, then Maui’s farmers markets are a must-see—or rather, a must-eat.
If you mosey up the side of Haleakalā to Upcountry, the farmers markets there are right in the heart of farm country, so “fresh-picked” can mean just an hour ago. The Upcountry Farmers Market is known for its diversity, boasting everything from homemade banana bread and husked coconuts to fresh fish and liliko‘i (passion fruit) butter. As we say in Hawaiʻi, ‘ono (delicious)! This is also the place to try the unusual Hawaiian staple food, breadfruit. It looks like a grapefruit, grows on a tree and tastes like a potato. How’s that for enticing?
Start your Maui farm-to-table adventure at one of these popular farmers markets.
