Kulturelle Veranstaltungen auf den hawaiianischen Inseln
Die hawaiianische Musik und mit ihr die Einzigartigkeit der Instrumente, Musiker und Lieder wird alljährlich auf Musikfestivals gefeiert. Das Ukulele Festival (Juli) auf der Bühne des Kapiolani Park Bandstand in Waikiki wird zu Ehren eines Instruments veranstaltet, dessen Ursprung viele Besucher im alten Hawaii vermuten, das aber tatsächlich gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts von portugiesischen Einwanderern mitgebracht wurde.

Heute ist die Ukulele aus der musikalischen Landschaft Hawaiis nicht mehr wegzudenken, ob auf der Bühne, beim Familienpicknick oder am Strand. Das Kona Slack Key Festival auf Hawaii Island (September) ist eine Hommage an eine einzigartige lokale Spieltechnik der Gitarre, ein weiteres Kennzeichen der hawaiianischen Musik.

Bei der „Slack-Key“-Technik wird die Gitarre mit offener Stimmung gespielt, was den unbeschwerten und fließenden Charakter von Klima und Kultur widerspiegelt.
