The Hawaiian Islands Cultural Events

Cada año, se celebra la música hawaiana en festivales que realzan la particularidad de los instrumentos, los músicos y las canciones de Hawái. El Ukulele Festival (julio) en el Kapiolani Park Bandstand, en Waikiki, rinde homenaje a lo que muchos visitantes consideran el legado de la antigua Hawái, pero en realidad, fueron los inmigrantes portugueses quienes trajeron el ukulele a finales del siglo XIX. Actualmente, el ukulele sigue siendo una parte fundamental del paisaje musical, no solo en el escenario sino en pícnics familiares o en la playa.


El Kona Slack Key Festival (septiembre) de la isla de Hawái rinde tributo a la manera local única de tocar la guitarra (otro atractivo de la música hawaiana). El slack key es una técnica o afinación de cuerdas flojas, que refleja la cualidad variante y fluida del clima y la cultura locales.
