Hula with Nalani Keale

Hula with Kumu Nalani Keale
Mondays · 9:00 a.m. · Waikīkī Community Center

Enjoy weekly hula taught by Kumu Nalani Keale, a gifted cultural practitioner, musician, and storyteller who comes from a long line of hula and music family traditions. Nalani has taught hula for over 25 years at the Waikīkī Community Center, maintains a private hālau in Honolulu, and has shared Hawaiian culture with communities in Japan.

This is a drop-in class open to all skill levels. Participants learn simple hula steps and movements while Nalani explains the stories and meanings behind the songs. He teaches both hula ʻauana and hula kahiko, often singing with his beautiful voice and accompanying class using ʻukulele or ipu heke. The pace is relaxed and supportive, allowing participants to connect naturally to the dance and its cultural roots.
