Sheraton Hawaiʻi Bowl

The 22nd annual SHERATON HAWAI‘I BOWL will be played on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24 at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex on the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa campus. The annual holiday bowl game will feature teams from the Mountain West and American Conference and will kick off at 3:00 p.m. HST. The game has been played on Christmas Eve 16 times in its history. The Ching Athletics Complex will play host to the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl for the fourth consecutive year while the New Aloha Stadium Entertainment District is being completed. Aloha Stadium, the former home of the bowl game, hosted the bowl game annually from 2002 to 2019. A Mountain West team has played in the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl every year since 2012 while the American will send a representative for the fourth time overall and second straight year. MW teams have won four times while American teams won once.
Sheraton returned as title sponsor of the bowl game this year. Previously, the bowl was known as the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl from 2003-13. The Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl is known for high scoring, thrilling offensive performances and close games with three overtime contests and nine games decided by one touchdown or less. Last year’s game set a then-FBS record for most overtime periods (5) as the American's South Florida Bulls pulled out a thrilling 41-39 victory over San Jose State of the Mountain West.
In addition to promoting the island way of life by sponsoring events intrinsic to Hawai‘i, the Sheraton Hawai‘i Bowl supports many non-profit organizations through the Hawai‘i Bowl Foundation. Since its inception, the Hawai‘i Bowl Foundation has awarded over $1.9 million to local charities and $380,000 through the Extra Yard for Teachers program to support teachers, schools, and students. The bowl game was created in 2002 after the hometown University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors finished the 2001 season with a 9-3 record and were not invited to a bowl game.
