Mākaha Beach

Where: Leeward Coast, Oʻahu
Activities: Fishing, scuba diving, surfing, swimming
Amenities: Parking, restrooms, showers, lifeguard

Mākaha Beach has the best surfing on Oʻahu’s west coast and is one of the places where big wave surfing was pioneered. Beware of the sloping sand beachhead that can cause backwash and catch unsuspecting visitors off-guard. In winters, waves can reach up to 25 feet. When the ocean is calm, this is one of Oʻahu’s most popular dive sites.
