The genesis of Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary dates back to 1982 when visionary and tropical horticulture expert, Norman Bezona, became passionate about demonstrating a reforestation effort in a single lifetime. Norman's purpose project intentionally bloomed into a living classroom, where he started educating guests in the forest over 30 years ago. We have evolved over time as a multi-generation family operated eco-tour that delves into the unique ecosystem of this cloud forest while emphasizing the significance of malama 'aina and being a responsible visitor to our sacred Island of Hawaii. Often enveloped in mist, this cloud forest stands as a testament to an inspiring reforestation effort and serves as a dynamic educational environment. Offering daily guided tours and wellness experiences, this lush ecosystem on the West Side of Hawai'i island provides a refreshing escape from the heat of the Kona coastline. Guided by our knowledgeable Naturalist Guides, visitors embark on a journey through the extraordinary landscape, with an invitation to foster a deeper connection with self and nature. Since the launch of our first website in 2005, we have been drawing guests from around the world who want to learn in the only tropical montane seasonally dry cloud forest in the United States. Different from the climate of a rainforest, it is very unique. Most people are surprised to learn that a lush tropical forest exists only 15 minutes from the Kona Airport, and 20 minutes from the Kona pier. Visitors consistently express their appreciation for our enriching eco-tours, revitalizing wellness experiences, engaging workshops and private customized events. At the core of our mission is our effort to foster connection and awareness, and expand the collective of responsible communities who care about restoration and preservation of tropical forest ecosystems. Let's all work together for a sustainable future for generations to come!
