Waimea is famous for its 30-foot waves in the winter and is a top place to watch some of the world’s best and bravest surfers. During summer, the water calms considerably and is a great destination for swimming, snorkeling and diving.

"La baie de Waimea est riche en histoire. Elle est connue comme l’un des premiers lieux où, dans les années 1950, quelques hommes s'aventurèrent au creux des vagues géantes afin de les dompter. Banzai Pipeline est un endroit remarquable. Pour les spectateurs, c’est probablement l’un des meilleurs endroits pour regarder les surfeurs. C’est un lieu très dangereux qui est donc réservé aux experts. Mais mon coin favori est vraiment Sunset Beach. C’est là que j’ai appris à surfer sur les grandes vagues."
