Community Education Session at Palolo Chinese Home

Join us on Thursday, May 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for our Community Education Session! Enjoy an evening of learning as we explore small, medium, and large-scale home modification solutions, discuss eligibility for the HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) Older Adult Home Modification Program grant, and highlight practical strategies to support aging in place. Attendees will also learn about fall prevention for seniors.

Our special guest speaker for this session is Catia Garell, Occupational Therapist and Accessibility Specialist at Thrive for Life, LLC. She also serves as the program manager for the HUD grant. With over 20 years of experience in occupational therapy and a background in skilled nursing, hospitals, and home health, Cat offers a unique, solution-focused approach to home modifications. She teaches the online course, “How to Get it Done,” at the University of Southern California’s Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and partners with healthcare providers, nonprofits, and government programs to promote safe and accessible living environments.

For your convenience, this free event will be held both in-person at Palolo Chinese Home's Farm Hall (upper campus) and on Zoom. Those joining us physically will have an opportunity to enjoy bento dinners and beverages from our kitchen. To confirm your event attendance for our in-person option, please RSVP by emailing [email protected] or call (808) 564-5217.
