Kuhio Beach Hula Show history and origin:

The Kuhio Beach Hula Show began in February 1994 as “Mōlehu I Waikīkī (Twilight in Waikiki).” The program was designed to showcase authentic Hawaiian hula and music by local hālau and musicians. Unlike Polynesian revues, content is 100% Hawaiian.

In 2000, in its commitment to bring a "Hawaiian Sense of Place" back to Waikīkī  the City adopted the cultural template of noted Hawaiian cultural practitioner and historian Dr. George Kanahele to construct an authentic pā hula or hula mound, which was dedicated to hula in a traditional blessing ceremony conducted by Kumu John Lake. This resulted in a permanent  hula at Kuhio Beach, designed specifically for this Hawaiian hula program.
