Welcome to Molokaʻi

Hawaiʻi’s fifth largest island, Molokaʻi is only 38 miles long and 10 miles across at its widest point and is home to the highest sea cliffs in the world and the longest continuous fringing reef. Molokaʻi remains true to its island roots, with a high percentage of its population being of Native Hawaiian ancestry who continue to preserve their rural lifestyle thanks to their love of the land. 

Discover Pāpōhaku Beach, one of Hawaiʻi’s largest white-sand beaches. Molokaʻi is truly an island of outdoor adventure where Hawaiʻi’s past comes alive! Explore its regions for yourself. 

To make the most of your visit, consider using local guides at cultural sites and choosing small-scale, locally led experiences whenever possible. For additional safety, cultural insights, and mindful travel tips, explore our “Know Before You Go” page.

Services across the island are limited, so plan ahead. Bathroom facilities are especially scarce in town and on the East End, and emergency response times on the West End may range from 30 to 60 minutes. When visiting Molokaʻi, come ready to learn, respect kapu (off-limits) areas and private land, and support locally owned businesses.

Hear a Hawaiian Chant

Composed by Kamaka Kūkona, Eō Molokaʻi is a mele (chant) that introduces the beauties of Molokaʻi. Each location has its historic value, which are the treasures that locals keep dear today. From the land in kāʻana, where hula is believed to have originated from to the more recent stories of Kalaupapa, Molokaʻi lives on through all of these connections to place through its people.
